One of my closest friends, Sarah, has quite the reputation for being a bad ass bartender. She does actually have her bartending license, which is cool enough as it is, but growing up (and going through our wild high school years together) she honed her skills with liquor and in particular curated her signature drink. The Gin and Tonic.
I know, I know. If you’re anything like most of the people I talk to, gin is probably the last liquor you reach for in your cabinet when you have guests over but hear me out. I hated gin right up until Sarah made me her sig drink and not only did it put me on my ass (gin ain’t no joke people) but it tasted fantastic. I’ll never forget that the first night she introduced me to her G&T was also the first night that I met Hector…I guess you can say that the rest is history, 3 years later and here we are!
With the holidays sneaking up on us, this drink is perfect for entertaining because it requires literally a handful of ingredients and a little elbow grease. No blender, no fancy equipment. Enjoy!
Reminder though: this drink is strong, don’t be stupid.
Never drink and drive, that shit isn’t cool & it’s incredibly dangerous.
What You’ll Need:
Fever Tree Tonic- 5 oz
Gin- 2 oz (depending on how strong you like it)
3 Wedges of Lime
1. Freeze the tonic in ice cube trays. It won’t freeze completely, but leave them in the freezer for as long as you can…it helps to keep from watering down the drink!
2. Place a few cubes into a short glass, cover with 5 oz of Tonic water
3. Stir in the Gin (Hendrix is my favorite brand)
4. Squeeze in two wedges of FRESH lime juice, garnish with the third
Pro Tip: The brand of gin isn’t important, it’s the quality of the tonic that you use that matters!
You can get all fancy and shake it up in a shaker but let’s be real, ain’t nobody got time for that. Just give it a quick stir and enjoy responsibly (or not, just hide the car keys. We don’t judge here).
