As a pre-teen I was a die hard music junkie. Literally, music was my form of crack (and it was just as illegal because what 7th grader could afford to be shelling out ninety-nine cents per song?) and my music library was #impressive. I rocked that black iPod mini before iPods were even cool and you’d have to poke me to make sure I was actually listening before having any kind of conversation with me. Just ask my mom, she eventually just stopped talking to me because my perpetual deafness pissed her off so much.
I digress. So I was a huge music kid, right up until Apple decided to suck it up and wipe my ENTIRE MUSIC LIBRARY from my iPod. Yep, all 50,000+ songs were gone in an instant. I was heartbroken, and all of that was totally irreplaceable because I (illegally) used my iPod to rip music from all of my friends, so it was like a walking database. Can’t get that stuff back. I was messed up for MONTHS after that and Apple is lucky I didn’t go and bomb their headquarters or something.
But I was persistent and rebuilt my library like any good little music fiend would. And just when I got almost everything back to the way I like it…my iPod crashed. Again. And Apple yet again gave me the middle finger. At that point I vowed to never purchase another iPod ever again because fuck Apple. If I didn’t need such a good camera for blogging, I wouldn’t have an iPhone either but I still never refer anyone to their products because fuck Apple.
Anyway, the point of that whole story is to tell you all that I have good taste in music. At least, I think so. I don’t really discriminate against different genres, I listen to mostly everything (except country, I can’t stand twangy guitars and nasally voices singing about heartbreak over and over again). Thanks to the invention of Spotify, I’ve rekindled my love for music and am slowly working to rebuilding my library with what Spotify has to boast…which is surprisingly a lot.
PS: Insider tip, if you have a .edu email address or are a student you can get Spotify premium for 5 bucks a month instead of 10. RIIIIGHT?!?!?!?
So I thought I’d share the wealth of my amazing musical knowledge and clue you all into what I’ve been obsessing over lately. Now, this is a judgement-free zone people so if you’re a loser who only likes EDM and isn’t open to other genres or something you can take your judge-y ass elsewhere because I will have none of that negativity in my comments section. Otherwise, PLEASE feel free to comment links to your fav music of the moment (YouTube is super linky friendly) because I love expanding my musical horizons. And go follow me on Spotify because duh. Enjoy!
This chick is cool beans, man. Seriously, her voice is super ethereal and creepy and suppppper relaxing. If I need to get work done but want to jam out at the same time, Banks is who I turn to. She’s soft enough for background music but the beats definitely keep you on a progressive pace to getting shit done. It’s great. Plus it’s great date-night-at-home music. I know that sounds weird but think, can’t you imagine playing this album in the background while cooking an Italian pasta dinner complimented by nice wine?
I don’t know, I’m really hungry right now guys work with me.
Kind of awkward to be posting about her, but this girl actually lived in my hometown and is my age. Like, she went to school with me and everything, and now she’s totally Twitter famous. Can you believe that shit? She’s got like 12.5K followers and I’m out here practically twerking for likes. That being said though, she’s got some serious talent. I dig her upbeat Britney Spears-esque vibe that you just don’t hear anymore. Maybe it’s the inner ’90s kid in me, but I caught myself blasting her music at top volume and I didn’t hate it.
I’m actually just about to call out this whole Spotify playlist for slaying because honestly who would be able to listen to this whole shebang without smiling? Only a cold-hearted betch, that’s who. I’m a HUGE fan of all Spanish music from Bachata to Salsa to Reggaeton, this playlist has a little bit of latin flavor all over it. Warning though, practically nothing is in English but I promise you’ll be too busy zumba-ing across the kitchen to notice you don’t understand any of it.
So I was a HUGE Eminem junkie in high school too, like I can rap all of his music off of any given album that’s how obsessed I am. So when I stumbled across NF I lost my shit because he has that angry/intense rap style similar to Eminem (not Slim Shady). This song gives me life when I’m trying to motivate through a workout (or motivate TO workout in the first place) and it’s super inspiring if you listen to the lyrics. I dig.
So what songs are on your playlists these days?
