Spring break time is here and I literally couldn’t be any happier. As I write this post, I’m out looking over a gorgeous river in Downtown Portland, Oregon and soaking up the sun that definitely hasn’t made it’s way over to New Jersey yet.
I touched down in Portland a couple days ago and let me tell you, these people know how to have a good time…and how to make amazing food. I’m probably going to have a recap post up by the end of the week for anyone who is looking to travel to the Pacific Northwest because if you haven’t yet and it’s not on your to-do list, you’re absolutely doing life wrong.
I’m actually only in Portland through the end of the week and then I’m hopping over to Las Vegas for a much needed and overdue birthday celebration (where my winter babies at, you know my pain). With all of the traveling that I’ve been doing lately, I’ve mastered keeping my suitcase to under 50 pounds because who wants to be stuck paying overweight fees. I’ve also been able to experiment a lot with travel sized goodies, including the smaller versions of my fav beauty products considering airport security is a bitch and a half to get through these days. I figured I’d give you guys a peek inside of my travel makeup bag and share a few tips and tricks to keeping your suitcase TSA approved without compromising on your beloved beauty products.
1. Travel bags/ containers: In a pinch and if your favorite shampoo or conditioner doesn’t come in travel-size consider picking up a few of these cheap-o little squeezie bottles from your local Target or Harmon’s Beauty Supply. You can refill them as many times as you want and they’re the right size for carry-on, making travel super easy if you can’t check a bag or don’t want to lug your entire bottle of ‘poo just for a weekend getaway.
2. Travel comb: I have to have to have to have a wide-toothed comb with me at all times because it’s the only thing that can untangle my rats nest of bedhead when I wake up in the morning. I typically use a gigantic comb to tackle the beast, but these little travel sized ones get the job done and take up significantly less space in your bag.
3. Contacts case: I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten on a plane to realize that I’ve forgotten a contacts case. And to be real, these little things are kind of hard to find just at your regular drugstore (or is it just me). Throw in a cute extra one in your carry-on just in case they lose your luggage along the way.
Pro Tip: Fill the little pots with contact solution before you throw it in your bag, if you forget your solution in the last minute rush to get out the door you’ll at least have enough to tide you over until you can get to the drugstore.
4. ONE makeup palette: I know, I know, I can’t believe I’m saying this either but honestly ladies…there’s no reason on god’s green Earth why you need to tote more than one makeup palette with you on vacation. Grab yourself a Naked Palette from Urban Decay or even make your own with the help of a Z Palette so you’re never without your favorite shadows…but you’re not carting around a million palettes at once either.
