We all know that I work at a makeup company, and we all know that my unhealthy obsession with makeup is out of control. It’s fine. No big deal.
The good part about being known as the makeup hoarder of all of your friends is that you’re never short on gifts when invited to a last minute soiree or if you forgot your friends birthday and need a present (we’ve all been there). I’m kind of kidding, but my encyclopedia of makeup knowledge has definitely been called on time and time again whenever my friends venture into Ulta or Sephora and trust me more than the actual employees. I’m picky, I have sensitive skin, and oily eyelids. These three problems alone make wearing makeup a bitch and a half, because very few products actually target all three of these problems.
If I were to pick my top brands, I’d say that IT Cosmetics is bomb for redness/ sensitive skin/ rosacea/ basically anything you want to cover up while also treating. For bronzing products, Too Faced will own that category until the day I die. For eyeshadow, MAC is really hard to beat but the Urban Decay Naked line comes pretty close if you don’t like toting around single shadows. I still struggle with choosing a brand for lipstick because I really don’t wear many lip products. I find them really annoying to have to reapply or babysit and I’d rather just reach for a good lip balm.
I thought that I’d share what’s on my vanity these days in case any of YOU have the same problems that I do. I swear by every single piece of makeup that I put on my face and no. I’m not sponsored. I’m not getting paid for mentioning any of these brands. I have all of these products because I either bought them myself, received them at work as part of my welcome goodie bag, or had friends gift me products. I just kind of feel the need to get that out of the way just to clarify expectations in case anyone was wondering…now, let’s get into it!
1. MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ocher
I’ve tried concealers, primers, foundations…you name it to keep my eyeliner and shadow in place, and nothing works quite as well as this paint pot. I grabbed it on a whim while I was interning at MAC after hearing everyone and their mother on YouTube talk about what a great primer it made…and lo and behold, whaddaya know? It works. It works really freaking well. Not only does it prolong the wear of eye makeup, but it also covers up any discoloration I have on my eyes. Winning.
2. Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer
This concealer is a total game-changer. It’s REALLY thick, so use a teeny amount and warm it up between your fingers before patting it onto your redness or dark circles. I blend it out well with my finger and sometimes use a beauty blender just to ensure that it’s evenly distributed and that’s it. It’s there until you actively try to remove it with makeup remover. No fuss makeup, now that’s the kind of stuff I can get behind.
3. Celebration Foundation Illumination
I don’t know why we insist on having the longest product names in the world, but this powder foundation is a godsend in gross, humid, hot weather. I can’t be bothered with liquid foundation during the summer, so instead I just conceal and then build up with this powder foundation. It never gets cakey and the coverage is wicked good. I’m a fan, clearly.
4. Brow Power
My brows are actually nonexistent, and this brow pencil fixes that right up for ya. A few soft strokes fills in your brows perfectly, and it has a spoolie on the other end to help you blend/ comb through the product to make sure you look natural and not the victim of Instagram brows.
5. No-Tug Eyeliner in Black-Brown
This is literally the only eyeliner that stays in place all day regardless of what I’m doing. It doesn’t transfer, smudge, or budge even through a sweaty workout at the end of the day. In fact, I’ve accidentally worn it to bed, woke up, looked in the mirror and it’s STILL perfectly intact. And it’s so hard to find a shade that isn’t a harsh black or a weird brown…this one is juuuuuust right.
6. Pop Goes the Shadow in Champagne
Funny story, I actually got this shadow in an old Ipsy bag eight million years ago and now it’s a part of my everyday eye routine. I just swipe this on the center of my lids to make it look like I’m put together. If I want to get really crazy, I dust some on the bridge of my nose and my cupids bow to really make my face pop but that’s usually only on special occasions because ain’t nobody got time for all that.
