Let me start off by saying that never in a million years would I ever have thought that I’d make it to BeautyCon LA, let alone take pictures with highly relevant YouTubers that have more screaming fans than most rock stars these days. But that was a thing, and it happened and it was great.
As you guys will have noticed by now thanks to all of my social media-ing over the past week or so, I attended BeautyCon LA to rep my company to the masses. Repping as a brand at an event like BeautyCon is exhausting but super rewarding, especially if the digital space is your jam like it is mine.
Having landed two days early, I was able to take some time to explore LA and visit the LACMA…so YouTuber of me, I know. I shot a little bit of vlog footage, so I’m hoping to have that edited and uploaded for you guys to check out over the next week or so! LA is a weird, cool city but honestly? Downtown isn’t shit. Don’t go to LA to visit downtown. It’s totally not worth it. Instead check out Hollywood or even better, Santa Monica! The pier is a FUN place to hang out, and an extra perk is Muscle beach …. Winky face.
BeautyCon was held at a huge facility right in downtown LA called the REEF, and let me tell you that the booths and décor were AMAZING. We were part of the QVC booth, which made our setup SO easy.
We had the cutest makeup vanities and two artists on hand doing makeup touchups throughout the day, and the other brands within the QVC booth were awesome. I got the chance to roam around and check out all of the booths before the insanity set in….so many cute concepts! NYX even had a freaking nightclub going on on another floor, full bar and everything.
The REEF’s parking lot was turned into a giant carnival…thing, where you could wait in line to meet your favorite YouTuber for a photo or an autograph. They had a stage set up with musical acts performing throughout the day, but my personal favorite touch were the Boutiques on Wheels. You’ve heard of food trucks right? Well now boutiques have hit the road with the same concept. These trucks pulled up with the CUTEST décor, and customers were invited to come in and shop the pop-up stores. Can you believe it? This one was particularly adorable, they even had a little table that they set up outside of their truck with accessories…. I can’t.
Highlight of my job? I get to connect with amazing influencers and introduce them to our brand. I’m not full of it when I say that I love our products, I think they work on the vast majority of skin types and help treat skin problems like fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, sun spots, discoloration… you name it. So for me, being able to talk to these girls about a brand that I actually love makes my job that much easier.
After all was said and done, the whirlwind that was BeautyCon was a total eye-opener. Not only did I not realize how young the generation of kids who idolize YouTubers are (like, eleven year olds) but I also don’t think I fully grasped how much of a business vlogging has become.
I spoke to about twice as many managers as I did influencers, if that puts it into perspective for you. The digital world is changing so quickly, and events like BeautyCon are the best way to connect content creators to fans…and I kid you not, I don’t have any hearing left thanks to all of the screaming.
Are you big into watching YouTubers?
Who’s your favorite?
