All opinions are 100% my own.
Staying in shape is a pain in the ass. Literally. When it comes to working out, I always start off on the right foot. I throw myself into whatever plan I’m all about at the moment and usually, I’m lucky if I stay on track for a week. Just ask the Pilates equipment that is now gathering dust in the corner of my apartment. Or the rowing machine that has now become a clothes hanger in my guest room. They’ll tell you in a heartbeat that I’m just not that committed to fitness, those traitors.
Anyway, given that I’m a master at restarting an exercise routine, I thought I’d share a few tips with you guys on how to stay in shape without really actually trying. Because why work harder when you can do the bare minimum and still see results #amiright? That was quite possibly the worst advice I’ve ever dished out, but just hang in there and I’ll have you feeling in tip-top shape in no time!
1. Make the most of TV time!
Whenever an annoying commercial break interrupts Vanderpump Rules on Monday night, resist the urge to fast-forward and instead do a few jumping jacks. If you’re feeling really ambitious or something then maybe throw a few crunches in there too.
2. Similarly, don’t waste your microwave minutes
You’ve got 3 minutes to wait while making Easy Mac in the microwave, why not get a few squats in? Bonus points if you add in a lunge or two.
3. Browse Pinterest for some Fitspo
If you looked at my Pinterest boards, I’d probably have you thinking that I’m a yoga-loving runner who Crossfits everywhere and eats nothing but raw vegetables. Start pinning your little heart out and trust me, you might actually do some of the exercises you find one day.
And look at all the really appetizing food that bodybuilders make when they’re trying to get big. Even if you can’t cook without the smoke alarm going off, you’ll feel really good about thinking healthy thoughts.
5. Keep anything important in another room from where you’re sitting
Keys, phone charger, laptop charger, TV remote, you name it. Not only will you get a good workout in walking from room to room but you’re guaranteed to get really irritated really quick from forgetting your life in another room constantly.
While some (okay, all) of these tips are really ridiculous, I do have one honest nugget of truth that has kept me in check all of these years. Just keep it moving. Seriously, that’s it. If you make sure that you’re staying active every single day, then you’re doing your part to keep your body happy and healthy.
I recently got the opportunity to try out the Garmin Vivofit, which is this nifty little fitness tracker that helps keep you moving every single day. Not only is it affordable (like under a hundred bucks affordable) but it even yells at you when you’ve been sitting in one place for too long…what more could you want, right? Pairing this device with the awesomeness that is the Verizon Wireless network makes using your phone with the Vivofit totally seamless. I was able to transfer all of my data (like how many steps I took in a day, for example) using the fancy-pants Garmin Connect Mobile App and keep track of my progress throughout the week. Arguably, the best part about everything is that keeping track of my fitness level became second nature because it was just so. easy. with the help of both Verizon and the Vivofit.
Oh and another bonus? It comes in a range of cute colors and is suuuuuuper stylish. If you want to learn a little more about the other awesome things this little guy can do, head over to the Verizon Wireless site here and remember to just keep on movin’ people!
