Any of you out there who have friends that live farther than like…an hour away from you know the struggle. My best friend relocated after college to Cape Cod full-time, and that’s literally a lifetime away from where I’m at these days. Last week I got a text from her inviting me and HQ up for a visit and we decided that a trip away was EXACTLY what the doctor ordered.
I’ll be brutally honest and say that the trip to the Cape from Jersey is nightmare fuel. Connecticut is the most useless state in the world and the highway infrastructure there is shit. The four hour trip took six, and by the time we were winding through the peaceful roads of the Cape I was just about ready to kill someone.
Sarah knows how to entertain and had essentially bought an entire liquor store to stock the house with. We weren’t complaining. Upon arrival I quickly had a fabulous glass of vintage red pushed into my hand and proceeded to have some much needed catch-up time. HQ and Sarah go way back, and we always manage to get into toruble when we’re all together.
First stop was dinner at a delicious little seafood restaurant right on the water in Wood’s Hole. If you’ve never been to Cape Cod, you’re seriously missing out. Little seaside towns are sprinkled along one major highway, and the scenery is prime. While a car is necessary to bop from area to area, Sarah played chauffer and we were able to hang up our keys for the weekend.
It’s funny, I’ve recently been obsessing over how fast time has been flying. Ever since starting my job, I’ve noticed that I can’t seem to keep track of where my life is going, and it’s worrisome. I’m not the kind of person who likes to take adventures or experiences for granted (and I FULLY know that I’m so lucky to be one of the few people I know to be in her desired industry with a decent job) but I had been feeling the need to just hit the pause button for awhile. Cape Cod is the perfect place to escape for a breather.
Enough blabbing from me and on to the photos. Necessary stops include the Pickle Jar for breakfast, a new Mexican joint for dinner, and a dockside restaurant on the last day to round off a fabulous weekend before our jaunt home.
Not a bad way to spend a weekend getaway, huh?
What have you been up to lately?
