Lol at this title. But honestly, I feel like for the first episode of #BeyondtheBranding , I should probably address why I’m actually qualified to be hosting a podcast with influencers, ABOUT influencers, when I am not actually an “influencer” myself!!
Today is the DAY folks! I am so excited to share the very first episode of Beyond the Branding: Interviews with Influencers. Before you all have a cow, yes…this is a solo episode.
I repeat; there are no influencers in this episode!
I figured before we dive into our first interview, I’d explain my experience working as a PR girl and how I ended up specializing in influencer relations. Check out the show notes below, which will be available each week for each episode that is uploaded to iTunes.
What’s the point of show notes?
Well, let’s say you’d rather not listen to the episode through and through…that’s totally cool! Show notes give you a general outline of the conversation with key points highlighted, that way you can just jump to the question that you want to hear the answer to.
Fancy, right? We’re so professional here.
And finally, if you enjoyed this episode PLEASE go and give me a 5 star review over on iTunes…and you can even leave me a snazzy little review! That’ll help others be able to find and enjoy this podcast too!!!
Ep. 1: I Swear I’m Qualified….#BeyondtheBranding
(02:00) Hello hello!!!
“…. If any of you know me, you know that I am your average PR girl. I work in public relations–that’s my day job and I specialize in working with influencers, meaning that I work your favorite YouTube stars and Instagrammers to get my products placed in their videos so that they can speak favorably about it to their audience. Like I said, this podcast has been a long time coming. In fact, I’ve had the microphone that I have purchased off of Craigslist in my closet for 2 years–believe it or not– that’s how long I have sat on this idea. But first let’s do some housekeeping.”
(05:00) Who am I and why should you trust me or listen to this podcast?
“…the first internship that I was offered was at a very small makeup company that was based in New Jersey– that’s where I lived. At the time, the company was called Glamourous Cosmetics and I really connected with the two co-founders of the company. We hit it off right away and I learned a lot. It was super small, super smart, down and dirty. I did everything from customer service emails to help pitching sales calls– it was crazy but it was a great experience. That lead me to getting my next beauty related interview which was with MAC Cosmetics in the Global Communications department. As it turns out, when you have beauty on your resume, beauty is where you stay!”
(10:00) Thanks, MAC Cosmetics, Glamour Dolls Makeup because without you I wouldn’t be here!
“…I think that is what helped guide me to work in beauty as well because it was something I could appreciate from far away but know that I would probably never actually excel at myself. I noticed with my time with that team of two, trends changing especially in the YouTube world. I was watching as influencers were receive press packages from companies that were sending them gifts of product to test out and to try and the influencers would share that product with their audience. I thought to myself, “Wow, we are missing a huge opportunity here. These Youtubers have an insane number of subscribers. We should be doing that.”

Anytime you have a question, make sure you hashtag with the #beyondthebranding hashtag or drop me an email. I’m always on email– firstname.lastname@example.org– and hit me with your questions because I want to make sure that if you are listening, I want you to become a part of the conversation!”
